Spellman High Voltage Electronics Clean Tech Competition 2018-2019


The 2018-2019 Compettion opens on the 21st November 2018.

The Spellman Clean Tech Competion focuses on the need to solve global environmental challenges through scientific nethodology and innovative thinking among high school students. It is a world wide competition open to all 15 - 18 year old secondary students from any nation in the world.

2019: Reducing the Impacts of Climate Change

Over the course of the last two and a half centuries of industrialisation, human beings have pumped ever increasing amounts of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. This has had an indisputable effect on the climate of the planet we call home, and only in the last few decades have we begun to notice, while in the last several years has there been a concerted effort to combat these effects. The resulting impacts from humanity rising into the modern era have become innumerable. They range from changes in weather patterns, to warmer oceans, from increased droughts in one area to increased flood risks in another. The resulting issues will have lasting impacts on our environment for generations to come. Which is why this year we are asking you to find ways to mitigate these end results, so they do not become our end result. The future needs help, and you are here to assist.


Your challenge is to identify a specific issue, analyse then explain in detail, and design a solution that can mitigate the negative impacts of climate change.

Each year the final event is held at Stony Brook University, New York, USA in July.

For 2017-2018 Competition, Australia had six entries. From the 547 teams from 39 nations, a Queensland team was invited to New York to make their final submission. The team of two lads finished 4th. A summation video is available for viewing Click here to view
